The Battlefields |
Walk amongst the ghosts of long-gone warriors and heroes, in KwaZulu-Natal, where Boer fighter, British soldier and Zulu warrior all fought to the death. The spirits of the battle still linger when one visits the Battlefields. You'll be overcome by overwhelming feelings of understanding, sadness and courage, like so many of those men of yesterday. There are many self-drive routes in the area, and most accommodation in this region offers tours and activities that will teach you more about the Battlefields. Some of these tours are incredibly gripping. You'll be mesmerised - even awed - by the detail. It's worth visiting the Battlefields towns including Dundee, Eshowe, Estcourt, Greytown, Ladysmith, Melmoth, Newcastle and Vryheid. Many a warrior has trod these very grounds, and Shaka, Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Colenso, Spioenkop, Churchill, Blood River and Cetshwayo are words that passed into the vernacular because of these events. |
