Hidden away in the Kalahari savannah, amid lofty crimson dunes and intricate salt pans, the luxurious Suricate Tented Lodge beckons travellers to its doors.

The lodge is perched atop a red sand dune and provides 360-degree views of the upper Auob Wetland’s vast grassy plains, dusted with age old camelthorn trees. You can relax on the expansive sunny deck and may see a pair of Suricates (meerkats) at play or watch the weavers building their massive shared nests.

The lodge is situated in the 10 000 ha Intu Afrika Kalahari Private Game Reserve, a wildlife sanctuary, positioned along the Auob River. Game drives through the reserve are a chance to experience the romance and adventure of on an African safari in modern comfort and style. Spot leopard, cheetah, lion, giraffe, oryx, blue wildebeest, zebra, springbok or jackal in their natural habitat.

Rooms
Guests are accommodated in 11 luxurious yet rustic walk-in tents, each with a private deck overlooking the reserve’s vast plains, furnished with sumptuous twin beds with crisp white linen and cooled with standing fans. All rooms have an intimate, open air bathroom with shower, hot running water and flush toilet set in stone and whitewash style. The luxury honeymoon suite has a queen-sized bed and walk out patio.

Intu Afrika Reserve is a wonderland of unspoilt terrain where skilled rangers will guide you through the reserve’s Predator Reintroduction programme and African Lion Rehabilitation Program or you can visit a small San village that is still rich with ancient customs and rituals. The Reserve also offers a unique opportunity to join a local Bushman tracker on a sunrise or sunset walk where he will reveal his desert survival secrets and teach you to trace insects, mammals and vegetation.

Those who prefer a more tranquil afternoon can cool off in the azure pool or sip dune-side sundowners on the expansive timber deck. In the evening the fireplace lights up the boma, and guests can stargaze under a crisp African sky.
