When exploring the Garden Route, take some time-out amongst the ostriches at La Plume, set in the tranquil Olifantsrivier Valley with spectacular views of the Swartberg Mountains.
La Plume is a Victorian homestead, built in 1902, on a working ostrich, alfalfa and vine farm. It's a place of opulent indulgence and rejuvenation, an unexpected oasis. It has a Deluxe Suite and three Honeymoon Suites. It also offers a Family Cottage, consisting of a kitchenette, and two bedrooms, lounges and bathrooms. It can also be used as two suites. There's also a Guide's Room. Indulge yourself in the romantic ambience of candlelit dinners with traditional ostrich fillet and other home-cooked delicacies.
La Plume is a guest house in the Olifantsrivier Valley, in Oudtshoorn, on the Garden Route. A working ostrich, vine, cattle and alfalfa farm, this guest house offers (by prior arrangement) a tour with owner Bartel to see the activities on a commercial farm first-hand - a must for anyone visiting the Klein Karoo! You can also enjoy stargazing with a Southern sky expert, as well as bird watching, balloon flights, mountain biking, cycling and hiking among the fynbos and rare succulents. Hikers will love the leisurely walks in complete safety and solitude. Also, visit the world's only meerkat (mongoose-like predators) conservation program where you can walk with these little “earth people” and be at one with nature. The location is within easy access to natural hot springs, nature and wildlife reserves, the Cango Caves, ostrich show farms and wine estates.
