Meaning "Place of Gold" in Sotho, Gauteng encompasses the Pretoria - Witwatersrand - Vaal Triangle. It's one of the largest industrial regions in the southern hemisphere. The Cradle of Humankind, just around the corner from Johannesburg, is another Gauteng destination of interest. This UNESCO World Heritage site includes the Sterkfontein caves, where the oldest hominid skeletons were found.
