Okavango Delta |
Known as "the river that never finds the sea", the Okavango Delta in Botswana is a fifteen thousand square kilometre maze of lagoons, channels, and islands. Instead of flowing into the sea, it flows inland, spreading over the Kalahari sand in a maze of lagoons and channels. Its waterways create countless islands, resulting in several different ecosystems. The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world, and an extraordinary variety of animals, birds and fish make it their home. The best time to view the game is during period from May to October, while the best time for birding and vegetation is during the rainy season: November to April. Water safaris are the speciality of the Okavango Delta. The most popular is travelling on a mokoro, or dugout canoe, which is poled along by a guide. You can also opt for land-based safari activities, such as game viewing in 4x4 vehicles. |
