At nearly sixteen thousand hectares, the multiple-award-winning MalaMala Game Reserve is by far the largest piece of land within the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, the oldest conservancy of private game reserves in South Africa. This low-lying region of flat bush country that contains habitat types that range from riverine thicket to open savanna, is one of the premier photographic safari destinations in, some believe, the world. It's not just the sheer size of land that makes this game reserve so impressive, but also the thirty two kilometres of open boundary, which MalaMala shares with the Kruger National Park. This means that animals move from one reserve to another unimpeded. Thirty six kilometres of Sand River soak their way through MalaMala Game Reserve, creating a diversity of habitats: the key factor behind the incredible complexity of fauna and flora for which MalaMala has become so famous. It's considered strange if not all of the members of the Big Five are seen within a single day on the property. With assistance from the top scientists in the field, MalaMala Game Reserve subscribes to the most scientific ecological management programme. This has led to Michael Rattray, the Managing Director of the MalaMala Game Reserve, being the recipient of the coveted Ossie Doyer Trophy for "The Conservationist of the Year" twice. Also, he's the only person in South Africa to have received the State President's Award for eco-tourism. At African Dream Holidays, we pride ourselves on our quality and selection of accommodation.
