Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is located in the beautiful and historically rich Eastern Cape along 30 kilometres of privately-owned river frontage, surrounded by 21 000 hectares/45 000 acres of exclusive, malaria-free wilderness. Overlooking the Great Fish River, the Lodge is masterfully contoured to blend with the magnificent landscape. Kwandwe means �Place of the Blue Crane� in Xhosa, and is home to a population of these majestic endangered birds.The Great Fish River Lodge is stylishly furnished in Frontier Settler style, integrating local African culture with colonial settler history. Elegant thatched stone and glass suites feature floor-to-ceiling doors which fold back to reveal uninterrupted wilderness vistas. Guest areas have a large fireplace with massive stone chimney, and a soaring thatched roof with imposing chandeliers.

Kwandwe is easily accessible by private charters into Kwandwe airstrip just five minutes from Kwandwe reception, which is a leisurely 30-minute game-drive to Kwandwe Lodge. Kwandwe is a 2-hour drive (there is a chauffeur service) or a 20-minute air transfer from Port Elizabeth which has a national airport.
