Garden Route |
On the southern coast of South Africa, from Heidelberg to the Tsitsikamma Forest and Storms River, there is a stretch of land known as the Garden Route that has inspired many an artist. The Garden Route is ideal for a self-drive holiday that focuses on the outdoors. It's lined with tiny coastal villages, mountains, beaches, bays, lakes, mountains, amber-coloured rivers, and tall indigenous forests. As a study in contrasts, on the Garden Route you'll find the town of George, also known as "The Gateway to the Garden Route" which is set on a coastal plateau in an area of abundant greenery at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains. Further along the route, you'll come to Oudtshoorn, better known as the "Capital of the Klein Karoo." Oudtshoorn is famous for ostrich farming and the Cango Caves. Adventures await you in every nook and cranny of the Garden Route. This includes scuba diving, ostrich riding, abseiling, fishing, hiking, bird watching, caving in the Cango Caves, oyster tasting, the Tsitsikamma National Park, fishing, surfing, scenic flights, canoeing, bungee-jumping, black water rafting and tubing.
