Dive into extravagance at Azura, an exciting new luxury eco-boutique retreat being developed on Benguerra Island in Mozambique.

Meaning "beautiful blue", the aptly named Azura is surrounded by miles of pure white sand and tranquil turquoise seas. It's the country's first luxury boutique eco-retreat. Built and operated in partnership with the local community, it has just fifteen villas, each with its own infinity pool and designed for the ultimate in pampering and privacy. The fourteen private beach villas and Presidential Villa will combine modern chic with traditional Mozambican design. Each air-conditioned villa will also have its own beachside sala, and will cover an area of 650m. Comfortable, simple, spacious and chic, the property will have all the creature comforts and designer touches expected from a luxury boutique resort, set off by beautifully carved beams and traditional artwork beneath a local thatch roof. The public areas are open to the beach and sea with amazing vistas across calm blue waters to the Indian Ocean beyond. Furnished with cool contemporary cottons and the textures of Africa, they are open to the breezes, in harmony with nature. Fresh local Mozambican produce, much of it home-caught or home-grown, are put together with contemporary style and flair. Some of the wines from the extensive wine cellar include fine wines flown direct from the owner's chateau in France's Loire Valley.

Azura is situated within a National Park, on the north-west of Benguerra Island, Mozambique. With the sea right there, many of the activities are focused around it. You can snorkel or dive, fly-fish or big-game fish. You can also go out with the Dugong protection team and search for the shy endangered mammal, help protect and release the turtles from their nests on these shores, sail on a dhow, cruise to deserted beaches looking for pansy shells, swim with dolphins, or track down humpback whales on their migration past these shores.
